Service Members Compete in Warrior Games
More than 300 active-duty military service members and veterans took part in the 2018 Department of Defense Warrior Games, hosted this year by the Air Force Academy in Colorado. Representatives from all branches of the U.S. military, as well as competitors from the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, participated in the June event.
Athletes competed over a nine-day period in June in 11 paralympic-style sporting events, including track and field, sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball swimming, shooting, archery, powerlifting, and indoor rowing. Designed to introduce wounded, ill, and injured service members to adaptive sports, the Games featured several participants using prostheses or orthoses.
Next years Warrior Games will take place in Tampa, Florida, June 21-30 and will be hosted by the U.S. Special Operations Command.
