ABILITY Prosthetics and Orthotics Orthotic Creation
Every orthotic patient at ABILITY Prosthetics and Orthotics receives individual care. As part of our commitment to all of our patients, we wanted to share with you some of the steps in molding a custom orthotic.
Travis Humphreys of ABILITY Prosthetics and Orthotics showing the custom designed vacuform machine to form the orthotics.
A special plastic known as PolyPro is placed in a commercial oven. Once the plastic reaches the right temperature and consistency it is pulled out of the oven to fabricate an orthotic.
The next step in creating the custom orthotic is to carefully lay the plastic PoliPro on the patients Ankle Foot Orthotic (AFO) mold.
Once the plastic has been placed, it is carefully manipulated around the patients custom leg mold with help of vacuform machine.
The Ankle Foot Orthotic (AFO) is left to harden and will be ready for removal within a few hours.
